Format: Kindle Edition

I really enjoyed this story and could relate in so many ways. It's so encouraging to me when you talked about your daughter's reconciliation cause I too am cleaning up the wreckage of my past. Kudos for having the courage to share your story in such an honest, open-minded and willing way. You are an inspiration for me to keep trudging the road to a happy destiny!

You will be Forever Changed after this Read

A forceful and compelling story that everyone should read, and everybody in recovery should especially not miss. Beautifully articulated story of hardship, endurance, and strength. A perfect read for all those in the criminal justice system to see inside of the mind of those incarcerated because of addiction or illness.
Definitely a page-turner. Jackson's keen insight and sharp wit add relief and levity to horrendous situations. The powerful hand of addiction pulls down the main character who helplessly surrenders but then through her desperate and determined inner strength, she surmounts impossible odds. A refreshing story of tragedy and triumph, the reader cannot help becoming fully immersed in the brilliantly expressed feelings and emotions conveyed by the writer. A true masterpiece.

A Compelling Story, a Warning and Hope

August 14, 2019

Format: Kindle Edition

This is a raw, no frills story of a woman’s addiction and her experience of prison and recovery. I found it compelling, moving, at times funny and, frankly, scary as hell. I was touched by her reflections on the friendships she formed with other inmates and also by the “rays of light” in her nightmare…the people who never gave up on her and those few people in the system itself who were the “true believers”, willing to have faith that there remained a decent human being under that rough, beaten-down façade. It’s not a “high brow” read like “A Million Little Pieces” or “A Beautiful Boy” (both of which are incredible reads). You won’t find it on Oprah Book Club list. It’s not intended to be great literature or win a Pulitzer Prize. Its purpose is clear… to tell a poignant but ultimately uplifting story, issue a warning to those on similar paths, and offer hope to addicts who think they are beyond redemption. It written in plain, everyday language that addicts and the people who love them will understand and relate to. I highly recommend this book. Read it. Give it to an addict you love. Share it with your AA, NA or ALANON group.

FASCINATING STORY

Very well written story of a "throw-away" woman who made it out of a seemingly hopeless way of life and became a woman dedicated to helping others climb out of their pit of despair.

An amazing journey from hopeless addiction to recovery.

November 20, 2018

Format: Kindle Edition

Kristina Jackson gives us an honest account of a life mired in addiction, the utter hopelessness and terror of prison life, and the gradual change to gratitude and recovery. She gives a much-deserved nod to the women of Alcoholics Anonymous who bring AA meetings into the jails, to the kind volunteers who provided books and work furlough to the inmates, and to many dedicated employees of the corrections and probation system that stood by her during the nearly 10-year process. I found it hard to put the book down, it was that compelling. I hope that Ms. Jackson's book will also be available in the libraries of our jails and prisons -- for both inmates and corrections officers....to shed light on a way out the cycle of addiction and incarceration. Thank you for writing this book, Kristina Jackson.

In this time of national disconnect, Ms. Jackson book reinforces the truth that fear, humiliation and seperation increase violence while kindness and connection empower human potential. This is a remarkable telling of the timeless story of a woman’s journey from pain to peace. I just couldn’t put the book down!

I loved this book!! It only took me two days to read it. Kristina was so honest with her experiences and I related to so many parts of her book as if she were telling my story. I laughed, I cried and it touched my heart in so many places. It emphasized if we walk through our F.E.A.R.S. we can accomplish anything!

FAQs

The most frequently asked question I receive is this: "Is this book a memoir or is it fiction?"

Answer: This is my story and the truth as best as I can recall. All of the names have been changed and thus the characters have been fictionalized. This makes it fiction. Three characters kept their names, myself- Mare, and Agnes. The two ladies refused to let me change their names.

Please, if you have any questions, I would love to answer them.
